Seasonal Fruit&Veggie Guide



‘Tis the season for all things PSL, but what about all the other seasonal fruits and veggies you can find this time of year?!


We love PSL season because it reminds us that winter is coming, and we can finally (!!) bust out our sweaters and boots (unless you live in California ). But there are so many delicious fruits and veggies that come with the changing seasons! You can find a list of Season Fruits and Veggies for the Fall/Winter at the bottom of the page.


Why does it matter if you eat veggies/fruits in season? There’s actually a lot of great reasons:


  • Seasonal Veggies are more nutrient-dense: because they are not traveling farther to get to you, they are picked when they are ripe, allowing veggies to become more nutrient dense. Otherwise, veggies and fruits are picked before they ripen, so that they don’t spoil in their travels to your grocery store.

  • Seasonal probably means you’re shopping local: this supports your local economy, and your local community. This is HUGE for your community- this can be the difference between keeping small businesses thriving or ending up with only big box chain stores around you. 

  • Seasonal Veggies are usually cheaper because they aren’t traveling a super far distance to get to your kitchen! Aside from the fact that they are more nutrient-dense, they are also helping keep your wallet more dense- win, win in my book.

Want to know which Fruits/Veggies are in season for the Fall/Winter? 


Veggies: Cauliflower, Cabbage, Mushrooms, Turnip, Radish, Arugula, Pumpkin , Squash, Brussel sprouts, Carrots


Fruits: Pomegranate, Citrus , Apples, Cranberries, Persimmon, Kiwi


Check out your local Farmer’s Market or small-business grocery store and see what they’ve got- chances are they are only stocking (or stocking more of) the veggies and fruits that are in-season. These also might vary depending on where you live! You might get a lot more cold-weather veggies than someone in warmer climates, so keep that in mind as well.
