How To Get the Most Out Of Nutrition Coaching

I’m a nutrition coach, and I also have a nutrition coach. I understand how overwhelming it might be at first to work with a coach, and the uncertainty of what it will look like. You’ve invested your hard-earned money to work with a nutrition coach, and there are some things that you can do to ensure you get the most out of your experience!

Respect Your Time- the time that your coach asks you to put into working on your nutrition is not just busy work that we ask you to do for no reason. If we ask you to do some work on yourself, or log your food, or drink more water, we are asking you to do it because it will benefit you.Time is about how you prioritize things in your life. Saying you “don’t have time” to log your food essentially means that you are saying that your health is not a priority for you. It takes time to develop a habit, so rushing through the work we give you will essentially waste your time, because it will take you longer to get to where you want to be. There are no short-cuts, no easy-way-outs, and definitely no quick-fixes. Take the time to do the work, and you’ll actually get there faster than if you half-ass it.

Be Honest- this is a two way relationship, and so if there is something that you are not happy with, or if there is something that you absolutely love, tell your coach all of it! If you do not feel like you can trust your coach, then there is a deeper issue than just what she/he knows- you have to trust your coach! If you are working with someone and the relationship doesn’t feel good, speak up!

Be Hungry (to Learn)- anytime your coach asks you to do something, don’t be afraid to ask why. As a nutrition coach, i want to educate my clients about how to develop and maintain healthy habits- not just take my word for it. Be inquisitive, and soak up all the knowledge you can from your coach in the time you work together. The journey of your health and wellness is for the long haul, but that doesn’t mean that your coach wants to keep you forever- our goal is to give you the tools to be able to live a happy and healthy life without needing to be connected to a coach.

Be Open to Feedback- the same way your coach wants you to be honest with her/him, you do actually want your coach to be honest with you. It is our top priority to ensure you are getting the most of your time working with a coach, and so if we sense anything, you bet we are going to say it!

Stay the Course- your coach will not always give you the answer you want to hear, but it may be what you need to hear. You started working with a coach because something is not working for you, and your coach may see something that you don’t see. You may have hired a coach to lose weight, and that process may take longer than you initially thought, but if you trust your coach, she/he will get you to where you want to go. You might just need to be patient and do it their way.

Whether you just started working with a coach, or you are thinking of signing up for one, these are invaluable things to keep in mind.

If you don’t know where to start, I am always here to help!
